Discover the best jackets on the High Street this Autumn and Winter 2018

Discover the best jackets on the High Street this Autumn and Winter 2018

Thanks to Storm Ali making an appearance in mid-September, many of us have had to trawl through the wardrobe to dig out our winter coats earlier than anticipated and then felt deflated when we saw what a sorry state it’s turned into over the warmer months.

Well, fear not! Walk down the High Street and you’ll find a delightfully wide selection of jackets to choose from this year. So, we thought we’d give you a helping hand by running through our favourites for the 2018/19 season.

The Bomber Jacket

When you want a short jacket to keep you warm then look further than the bomber classic. A firm favourite for many years now, it’s a popular choice because the bomber jacket is so versatile. This year’s high street brands have a particularly wide range to choose from with everything from simple and refined to bold, bright and patterned jackets available.

It’s the more authentic pilot style jackets that offer the most protection during cold and harsh weather so keep an eye out for premium fabrics like wool, moleskin and felt to keep the wind and rain off your back.

The Puffer Jacket

A favourite jacket among outdoor enthusiasts, the puffer jacket has transitioned across to the high street well over the past few years, and we have some particularly bright variations available this year. With bright colours, metallic sheen and even pastel shades being seen around the designer collections and catwalks this year.

Puffer jackets are particularly good when you want to make a bold statement and are the perfect choice for casual streetwear wearers wanting a little extra warmth doing the colder autumnal months.

The Shearling Jacket

Shearling is one of the warmest jackets available and comes with a luxury price tag, but we think they’re worth the investment for the increasingly colder winters we’re now experiencing in the UK. Made from the pelts of sheep, they’re available in most styles including a budget version with just a fleece collar.

They work best with smart casual looks in our experience – think denim jeans and checked workshirt for that rugged workwear look. We love this trend and think it’s a great way to combine warmth with looking great whatever the weather.

The Technical Parka

While more of a coat than a jacket, the Inuit designed Parka that was initially made from sealskin is a fantastic choice when you’re looking for the best protection from the harsh British winter weather. It has to be said, it looks pretty good too!

First gaining popularity in the 1960s, the Parka has returned as a staple favourite ever since and this year is certainly no exception. With new technical options available for added versatility, such as flap pockets and underarm vents, the Parka is a fantastic option for that hiking boot and cable knit sweater countryman style.
